The programme is about making health and care services better so that more people with a learning disability, autism or both can live in the community, with the right support, and close to home.
NHS Reasonable Adjustments
The Equality Act (2010) states all organisations including health and social care, such as hospitals and GP surgeries must take steps to remove the barriers individuals face because of disability.
Barking and Dagenham Children and Families Health Service
The Barking and Dagenham Children and Families Health service delivers the Healthy Child Programme (HCP) in partnership with Barnardo’s. The HCP is a health care programme that is offered to families/ carers with children from antenatal to 19 years of age.
The Healthy Child Programme is offered to all children and families resident in the Borough. It includes Health Visitors for antenatal to 5 years old and school nursing and school engagement from 5-19 years.

- Antenatal – your team will contact you any time after your 28th week of pregnancy to introduce you to our services. Visit Barking and Dagenham’ Pregnancy and Birth pages to find out more about feeding babies and toddlers and a range of other information and support for families experiencing the first 1001 days of a child’s life, from conception to their 2nd birthday
- Audiology – The consultant-led audiology service provides assessment and management of hearing and balance in people aged up to 19.
- Children’s Integrated Therapies – The Children’s Integrated Therapies (CIT) service is part of Barking and Dagenham Targeted Services.
- Community Medical Paediatrics – The Community Medical Paediatric Service in Barking and Dagenham is available to children and young people where there are concerns about a child’s health, development or educational progress. This includes medical advice for Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP), health assessment of children in care and child protection.
- Health Visiting Service – Health visitors work closely with other health services to ensure that children’s health needs are met, and work with other non-health services to ensure that each and every child and young person lives and grows in a safe and healthy environment. The team help support the health and wellbeing of your whole family, from antenatal visits up until your child goes to school.
- Nursing service – Child Development Centre (CDC) – The CDC nursing team provides quality, specialist, multi-disciplinary services for children with moderate to severe disabilities and their families registered with a GP in the Barking & Dagenham area, in order to ensure each child reaches their full potential.

North East London Outreach Dental Service – We are the Outreach Dental Team. We work across our boroughs to provide a variety of outreach services e.g. fluoride varnish and daily supervised tooth brushing programs in both mainstream and SEN schools.
