NHS Learning Disability and Autism

The programme is about making health and care services better so that more people with a learning disability, autism or both can live in the community, with the right support, and close to home.

The Equality Act (2010) states all organisations including health and social care, such as hospitals and GP surgeries must take steps to remove the barriers individuals face because of disability.

Barking and Dagenham 0 to 19 Healthy Child Programme – The 0 to 19 Healthy Child Programme in Barking and Dagenham is a health care programme that is offered to families/ carers with children from antenatal to 19 years of age.

  • Audiology – The consultant-led audiology service provides assessment and management of hearing and balance in people aged up to 19. 
  • Barking and Dagenham 0-19 Universal Childrens Service – The Barking and Dagenham 0-19 Childrens Universal service delivers the Healthy Child Programme (HCP). 
  • Children’s Integrated Therapies – The Children’s Integrated Therapies (CIT) service is part of Barking and Dagenham Targeted Services.
  • Community Medical Paediatrics – The Community Medical Paediatric Service in Barking and Dagenham is available to children and young people where there are concerns about a child’s health, development or educational progress. This includes medical advice for Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP), health assessment of children in care and child protection.
  • Health Visiting Service – Health visitors work closely with other health services to ensure that children’s health needs are met, and work with other non-health services to ensure that each and every child and young person lives and grows in a safe and healthy environment. The team help support the health and wellbeing of your whole family, from antenatal visits up until your child goes to school.
  • Nursing service – Child Development Centre (CDC) – The CDC nursing team provides quality, specialist, multi-disciplinary services for children with moderate to severe disabilities and their families registered with a GP in the Barking & Dagenham area, in order to ensure each child reaches their full potential.
