Barking & Dagenham 0-19 Universal Children's Services

The Barking and Dagenham 0-19 Childrens Universal service delivers the Healthy Child Programme (HCP). The HCP is a health care programme that is offered to families/ carers with children from antenatal to 19 years of age.

Barking & Dagenham Mental Health Support Team (MHST)

Barking and Dagenham Mental Health Support Team (MHST) has been created to help meet the emotional wellbeing needs of children, young people and families within education settings. This support is aimed at children and young people who may be experiencing mild to moderate emotional wellbeing concerns. Barking & Dagenham MHST is available in six schools across the borough, which includes both primary and secondary schools, with the aim of branching out in more schools in the future.

Barking and Dagenham CAMHS

Barking and Dagenham CAMHS provide child and adolescent mental health & emotional wellbeing services across the London borough of Barking and Dagenham.

Child and adolescent Speech and Language Therapy (SALT)

The Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) service for children and young people provides specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of communication and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties for children and young people from birth up to the age of 16 years (or up to end of the academic year in which they are 18 years of age for those with an Education Health Care Plan).

Children’s Integrated Therapies – Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy

The Children’s Integrated Therapies (CIT) service is part of Barking and Dagenham Targeted Services. The CIT offers both integrated and single therapies dependent upon need and will provide specialist assessment, treatment and management for those children that meet the criteria for the service.

The team works with children and young people (CYP) aged 0-19 in schools, children’s centres, clinics and their homes to assess need, train and empower children, their care givers and school staff and deliver specific therapeutic packages of care. CYP who have an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) will be treated according to the requirements of the plan.

Community Paediatric Continence Service

The Community Paediatric Continence Service (Level 2) for children and young people aged 0-18 provides assessment, treatment and support for children and young people with bladder and bowel dysfunction, where first line intervention (Level 1) has not led to a resolution of the problem.

End of Life Care and Haven House (Children’s Hospice)

Children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions require palliative care over a much longer period. Their condition often fluctuates and, as such, it is more difficult to identify when a child is moving into their end of life phase. End of Life Care strategic group know that the care people receive at the end of their life is important to the person, but equally impacts the lives of those family and friends who remain. The group, therefore, aim to work with patients and families to respond to their different needs.

Haven House Children’s Hospice helps families by providing specialist nursing care and emotional support in a warm and loving environment and when times are tough.

Paediatric Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy

The paediatric physiotherapy and occupational therapy team provide a child centred service for any conditions which affect your child’s ability to participate in everyday life. Physiotherapists assess children’s movement, mobility, posture, muscle strength and flexibility. They treat children mainly through exercise, movement and positioning through play. Occupational therapists assess children‘s function in the areas of self care, such as dressing and brushing teeth, school skills, such as pencil skills, using scissors and rulers and participation in play.

School Nursing

The school nursing service works in partnership with children, young people and their families to ensure that children’s health needs are supported within their school and their community. The teams provide support to schools, families and children, including those with disabilities and complex emotional needs.

Specialist School Nursing

The Specialist School Nursing team provides a Specialist and Holistic Service to Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and are attending Trinity School and Riverside Bridge School.

AJM Healthcare is the appointed NHS wheelchair service provider for residents currently registered with a GP in the Barking and Dagenham.
