The Barking and Dagenham Children and Families Health service delivers the Healthy Child Programme (HCP) in partnership with Barnardo’s. The HCP is a health care programme that is offered to families/ carers with children from antenatal to 19 years of age.

The Healthy Child Programme Supports children and families in Barking and Dagenham. Every child deserves the best start in life.

The programme is delivered by health visitors, community public health nurses, senior public health assistants and public health assistants. Health visitors and community public health nurses are registered nurses or midwives that have undergone additional training in the care and development of pre-school children. They work with midwives, GPs, pediatricians, local Family Hubs and voluntary organisations to provide the best possible care to you and your family.

School nursing (5-19)

The School Nursing teams are split across 3 teams within the borough to help children and young people make the best possible start in life. The Team work with children and families from aged 5 up to 19 years.

The Team work from health centre’s within the borough and work in partnership with their allocated schools. They work to provide a link between school, home and the community, with the main aim of improving health and wellbeing. They also have a specialist nurse (EOTAS Nurse) supporting Children and Young People who do not attend an education setting, or attend alternative education provisions. They provide support to schools, families and children, including those with disabilities and complex emotional needs, on a wide range of topics.

Children’s Integrated Therapies – Barking and Dagenham

The Children’s Integrated Therapies (CIT) service is part of Barking and Dagenham Targeted Services and includes Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.

The CIT offers both integrated and single therapies dependent upon need and will provide specialist assessment, treatment and management for those children that meet the criteria for the service.

The CIT team work with colleagues in education and social care to deliver an integrated service for children and young people and will share information only to support the care outcomes for the Child or Young Person.
