Pathways to Employment

Work-based learning

One of the most effective ways to prepare young people with SEN for employment is to arrange work-based learning:

Apprenticeships

  • Paid jobs, incorporate training, leading to nationally recognised qualifications.
  • You can earn as you learn and gain practical skills.

Traineeships

  • Education and training programmes with work experience.
  • Maximum of six months and include core components of work preparation training, English and Maths and a high-quality work experience placement.

Supported Internships

  • Structured study programmes for young people with EHCP, based primarily at an employer.
  • Normally last for a year and include extended unpaid work placements of at least six months.
