NHS Learning Disability and Autism

The programme is about making health and care services better so that more people with a learning disability, autism or both can live in the community, with the right support, and close to home.

NHS Reasonable Adjustments

The Equality Act (2010) states all organisations including health and social care, such as hospitals and GP surgeries must take steps to remove the barriers individuals face because of disability.

Barking and Dagenham 0 to 19 Healthy Child Programme – The 0 to 19 Healthy Child Programme in Barking and Dagenham is a health care programme that is offered to families/ carers with children from antenatal to 19 years of age.

  • Barking & Dagenham 0-19 Universal Children’s Services – The Barking and Dagenham 0-19 Childrens Universal service delivers the Healthy Child Programme (HCP). The HCP is a health care programme that is offered to families/ carers with children from antenatal to 19 years of age.
  • Barking & Dagenham Mental Health Support Team (MHST) – Barking and Dagenham Mental Health Support Team (MHST) has been created to help meet the emotional wellbeing needs of children, young people and families within education settings.
  • Barking and Dagenham CAMHS – Barking and Dagenham CAMHS provide child and adolescent mental health & emotional wellbeing services across the London borough of Barking and Dagenham.
  • Child and adolescent Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) – The Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) service for children and young people provides specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of communication and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties for children and young people from birth up to the age of 16 years (or up to end of the academic year in which they are 18 years of age for those with an Education Health Care Plan).
  • Children’s Integrated Therapies – Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy – The Children’s Integrated Therapies (CIT) service is part of Barking and Dagenham Targeted Services. The CIT offers both integrated and single therapies dependent upon need and will provide specialist assessment, treatment and management for those children that meet the criteria for the service.
  • Paediatric Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy – The paediatric physiotherapy and occupational therapy team provide a child centred service for any conditions which affect your child’s ability to participate in everyday life. Physiotherapists assess children’s movement, mobility, posture, muscle strength and flexibility.
  • School Nursing – The school nursing service works in partnership with children, young people and their families to ensure that children’s health needs are supported within their school and their community. The teams provide support to schools, families and children, including those with disabilities and complex emotional needs.
  • North East London Wheelchair Service – AJM Healthcare is the appointed NHS wheelchair service provider for residents currently registered with a GP in the Barking and Dagenham. For information, please see: North East London Wheelchair Services
